Case study · Pixelshift
Running hundreds of screens from one calm dashboard
Pixelshift is a digital signage platform. Teams upload media, build playlists, schedule them and push them to screens in stores, lobbies and offices, without calling IT.
The challenge
Signage teams juggle four separate jobs: managing content, building playlists, deciding when they play, and keeping physical screens online. In most tools these live in different places, so a single campaign means hopping between screens and losing context.
My approach
I built the product around one chain: Media, then Playlist, then Schedule, then Device. Every flow hands off to the next one, so a user can go from upload to a live screen without leaving the path.
- Long setups are stepped wizards with a summary at the end, so nothing gets lost halfway
- Every list has an empty state that tells you the next action
- Nothing goes live silently: a review step lists every pending change before publishing
- Destructive actions (exit setup, replace item) always confirm in context
Key features
The parts of the product people touch every day.
Feature 01
Dashboard
The first screen answers one question: is everything playing? Online and offline counts, a device overview chart, the latest captured screenshots from real screens and the upcoming schedules.
Feature 02
Media library
Grid and list views, folders, and an upload flow designed for every stage: asking, files chosen, uploading with progress, uploaded.
Feature 03
Playlist builder
Create a playlist in four steps. Drag media in from the library, drop between items, replace or reorder, then assign it to devices or groups.
- Drag, drop in between, replace and move states all designed
- Collapsed media view for long playlists
- Edit mode reuses the same layout, so there is nothing new to learn
Feature 04
Scheduling
A calendar of what plays where, plus a date and time step with quick presets (today, tomorrow, weekdays), repeat rules and the device timezone shown up front.
Feature 05
Devices and sync groups
Each screen has a detail page with general info, schedule, history and network tabs. Users can request a live screenshot to check what a screen is really showing, and group screens that must play in sync.
Feature 06
Review, publish and search
Changes are staged, then reviewed in one list before they reach live screens. Global search jumps straight to any playlist, media item or device.
Feature 07
Workspace admin
Members and roles, usage, API keys and a filterable audit log of who changed what.
